Commas

Are the commas in the following sentences accurately placed and/or necessary? "Once children begin to produce phonemes and morphemes, they learn to associate..." When children begin to speak in short sentences, they're on their way to..." The more a child is exposed to and the more a child can practice language skills, the more the child will..." I recognize these are all very similar. What type of clause are they and is this a general concept? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
