That country will lose all its money, regardless of those futile attempts.

Is the comma in the sentence above necessary. The comma is after a strong clause, but before a weak clause. If the clauses were turned around, then maybe it is needed. Please correct me.

I consider it optional. That second clause is rather long, so it wouldn't hurt to use the comma.
