Comma with City/State in a Series

Hello,

Would you use a comma in between two words in a series if the series consists of a city and state? For example, is the comma placement correct in this sentence or would you not need a comma in between "York" and "and"?

"They mentioned how Rochester, New York, and Chesterton, Indiana, successfully underwent a comprehensive overhaul."

Top answer

I wouldn't. The second comma is now commonly omitted, I believe: They mentioned how Rochester, New York and Chesterton, Indiana successfully underwent a comprehensive overhaul
