Comma with a long, but subordinate clause at the end of a sentence

Which of these is correct? I have to keep the sentences as is. I cannot change the wording or order of the words. I just need to know if it is alright to have a comma after "adulthood."

We know more about what helps the young people steer past problem stages and transition to adulthood, and about what are the best policies to generate the safest and most cost-effective communities.

or

We know more about what helps the young people steer past problem stages and transition to adulthood and about what are the best policies to generate the safest and most cost-effective communities.

Hi, Use the comma version. The pause helps the reader to grasp the underlying structure of the sentence, which is - We know more about ( what helps the young people to steer past problem stages and to transition to adulthood ) pause and we know more about ( what are the best policies to generate the safest and most cost-effective communities ) .
