Comma use. What's the rule?

"Consuming 9-11 servings of fruits and vegetables every day, is the key to preventing over 60% of all life-style diseases--including cancer."

I want to take that comma out of the sentence. Seems wrong to me; am I correct? either way, what's the rule it is following or breaking?

Thanks.
