Comma Use

In the following sentence: "I have a nurturing approach to teaching and I strive to create an environment that is comfortable for all students where no one feels fearful or embarrassed to speak up or make a mistake."

Is a comma needed between "students" and "where"? When I read it aloud it sounds like it needs a comma. However, my grammar teacher was talking about commas in class the other day and completely confused me on when they should be used.

No, but it wouldn't hurt to put "and" there.
