Comma use?

In this instance, is the use of a comma after 'artists' acceptable?

They are free from earthly troubles,
As artists, condemned to create
Splendour that cannot be oppressed
Within the tomb that is this world.

Thanks in advance!

Yes. Actually, it reads well with either comma but not with both; i.e., the phrase 'as artists' can be assigned to either the first clause or the second.
