Comma usage in introductory sentences.

Hi,

In the below sentence, is my comma usage correct.

'As we left, I made a promise to myself never to return.'

Thanks. Could you possibly comment on this one too. I'm worried that I'm overloading things with commas.

'Really, I didn’t care what it looked like, but because I was so irritated and agitated by the store and the people that were swarming around me, I took my annoyance out on her, which I know wasn’t fair or the right thing to do, but at the time, I couldn’t help myself.'

That's how I would have written it. Commas start to loom large when you pay attention to them—ignore them. If they are right, the reader doesn't see them.

That's still a very rambling sentence.
That's what makes it sound natural. Much of our spoken English sounds like that.
