Comma Splice Error?

My teacher is trying to tell me that putting a gerund clause after an independent clause is a comma splice, but I've been writing that way for 5 years and no one has told me otherwise.

Example:
She ran across the border, her heart leaping in her chest.
He sprinted down the road, jumping and shouting for joy.

Those are correct, right?
