Comma Query

Which is correctly punctuated below -- 1 or 2? Do we really need the commas in the 2nd example below?

1. He will be on vacation from Monday the 5th to Sunday the 11th.

2. He will be on vacation from Monday, the 5th, to Sunday, the 11th.

I think that the commas are in the right places below; do you agree?

He will be on vacation from Monday, May 5th, to Sunday, May 11th.

Thank you.
