Comma placement.

Could you please tell me if I should insert a comma after "secretary" while writing this sentence?

Should it be this:
In the meantime a strange parcel came into the office, opened first by a secretary, who then passed it to her boss, Jim.

Or this:
In the meantime a strange parcel came into the office, opened first by a secretary who then passed it on to her boss Jim.

Hi The strict rule is to omit the comma if the 'who' clause is vital to your sentence, but put one in if you are only adding extra information: - That is the secretary who handed over the parcel - I talked to Jim's secretary, who seemed very nice I would include the comma in the example you give, but it could be done either way Dave

Hi

The strict rule is to omit the comma if the 'who' clause is vital to your sentence, but put one in if you are only adding extra information:

- That is the secretary who handed over the parcel

- I talked to Jim's secretary, who seemed very nice

I would include the comma in the example you give, but it could be done either way
