Hi everyone. I'd like a little clarification on a comma/period issue.
Could the following sentence be punctuated in both ways? Or is only one correct?
(Could you help me?) Sure. What can I do for you? OR Sure, what can I do for you?
I guess my question encompasses a wider one which is that is you have an introductory affirmative or negative (Yes, No, Sure, Of course etc.) is it possible to follow it with a period rather than a comma? I know Chicago covers the issue of a comma after an introductory "Yes or No" but I can't find anything on putting a period after them.
Thanks for your help! TT

For me, both styles are acceptable.

Hi GPY. Thanks for you answer. That was also my inclination. I think it comes down to the fact that when representing speech, punctuation becomes a little more flexible.
