Comma or semicolon?

Comma or semicolon in the following? 1 or 2 below? I say 2.

1) We’re not trying to be difficult, we just want to ensure your data is secure.

2) We’re not trying to be difficult; we just want to ensure your data is secure.

Can we get away with a comma before ‘trust me’ below—or should we use a semicolon?
