Comma or Semicolon

Sound is vibrating air that the ear picks up and changes into electrical signals. These signals are then interpreted by the brain. Hearing is not the only sense that can do this, touch can do this too.

I was wondering if the comma in the last sentence is correct. I think a semicolon would be better but I'm not sure. This is an excerpt taken from my English 2 book.

Thank you very much. That's what I thought. This is in a textbook for ESL students in Japan so I will call the publishing company and try to get the error fixed.
