Comma or semi-colon?

Can the second halves of these sentences stand on their own as sentences? If so, shouldn't the comma be a semi-colon?  My father ate the muffin, a muffin which no man had yet chewed. My father ate the muffin, a feat which no man had attempted.

Use a dash there. "My father ate the muffin—a muffin which no man had yet chewed."
