Comma or no comma and why?

“One of my followers, Bob, is coming to the show.”

Commas or no commas, and why?

I know usually the commas mean that you are saying there’s only one, like in- “My father, Bob, is home” (one father) vs “My father Bob is home.” (Possibly two fathers). But if the phrase “one of...” is used, is there a difference?

Top answer

” is used, is there a difference? Yes. You want the commas because you're identifying parenthetically which of the (more than one) followers it is.
