She added, dreamily.

In the sentence above, does there need to be a comma?

There was no context provided by the OP. I thought there was a conversation going on and "she added" was another way of saying "she supplemented". Could a comma be used in such a case to indicate a pause for stylistic purpose?

I thought about that, but I find it hard to think of a realistic context in which the sentence with that meaning would just contain those three words. The sentence would normally specify the object, ie what she added.
