Hi! Are commas necessary for the below sentences? If commas are necessary or if it is optional, where should it be placed? Thanks, Fulvio
1. It often eats plants but it eats birds sometimes.
2. Well I used to a lot in my younger years but not now.
The only place I would naturally pause briefly when saying these sentences is after the introductory interjection well . A comma is also possible before the word but , as a pause there serves to strengthen the contrast indicated by 'but'. However, with short sentences I don't think this is necessary.
