Comma after yesterday

I often see a sentence start something like this. Is the comma OK? Can we do without it?

Yesterday, I phoned her after a long time.

I often see a sentence start something like this. Is the comma OK? Yes. Can we do without it? Yes.

Yesterday, I phoned her after a long time.


But this doesn't read well to me. I think it's because the important part seems to be left to the end.

I'd say

eg After a long time, I phoned her ye
