Comma After "While Earlier, Etc."

Hi. Could you clear up, whether a comma is needed in typical contrast clauses that, however, contain an adverbial modifier. For example:

While earlier(,) we had to watch movies on VHS, now the Internet usually serves as the source of them.

While the last month(,) the shop was closed for renovation, now it is open again.
