Comma after Welcome

I am looking at a welcome message for a website and wanted to ask opinion on whether there should be a comma after 'Welcome' i.e. should it is 'Welcome John' or 'Welcome, John'. My understanding is that the more formal grammatically correct approach would be to use a comma, but that the comma is often dropped when used online as a more informal approach?
