I would punctuate as shown in these examples.

He loved her. Hence, he married her.

He loved her, and hence he married her.

I will see you two days hence.

He is dead, hence his absence.

Clive, what is the grammatical reason for a comma in that 4th sentence? He is dead, hence his absence.

I suppose it is because 'hence his absence' is an afterthought? Can you omit the comma? Is hence a subordinating conjunction?

In this example, a semi-colon or a period is fine. I'd use a period. Te word 'hence' provides sufficient connection to the previous sentence.
