I would like to know why there is no comma after "sat" and there is comma after "thought".
1. I sat looking out the window.
2. I thought, looking out the window..

The ability to form a combination like "sat looking" is a special property of the first verb. Most verbs cannot do this. As well as "sit", "stand" is another common example.
