Comma

1) There are several species of baobab in Africa, and Madagascar, and there is one in Australia.
2) There are several species of baobab in Africa and Madagascar, and there is one in Australia.

If I delete comma like 2), does it mean differently? I wonder what role this comma plays.

You cannot use that 'comma' in #1. -- This means that Africa has several, Madagascar has several, and Australia has one. -- This means that there are several species in each country.

You cannot use that 'comma' in #1. You can do this:
