(Two guys are out driving.)
Suddenly the traffic starts slowing down.
Guy #1: What now?
The car comes/They come to a stop. Two overturned trucks are blocking the road about 250 yards ahead.
Guy #2: There's been an accident.
1) Is 'come to a stop' OK if the traffic doesn't allow them get further?
2) If we're in the car with them, would you say 'the car comes to a stop' or 'they come to a stop'?
3) Would Americans say '250 yards' here or something else?
Thanks.
