Come undone

I've seen this idiom used a lot in songs. What does this convey?

The use I've always been familair with is when a button comes undone (unfastened).

Anything that was once 'put together' can 'come apart' or 'fall apart' or 'come undone'.

The exact meaning depends on what is said in the song. It could mean something a little different for each song because it is such a general expression. As you already know, it can even apply to a button.
