Come to the end

Mindfulness is about being awake in the moments of our lives, so that we don't come to the end of life and realize we missed it, that we missed the whole thing, because we were always somwhere else and somewhen else.

I don't undestand 'come to the end of life' in this context. And does 'it' mean mindfulness or being awake or the whole thing?

Thanks in advance!

This is a bit poetic. "The end of life" is a rather general concept, not often used by the person himself in describing his own life.

The argument posed by your sentence is completely hypothetical.

Naturally, many people have regrets when they feel (for some reason) that they may be approaching the end of their life.

Yes, I take "we missed it" to mean "we missed life

Thanks Clive and Avangi!

Then, can I understand the structure like ... and realize we missed it and realize that we missed the whole thing...?

mariottand realize we missed it and realize that we missed the whole thing
In my opinion, the second "and" is misleading. They are not two things. The second is an elaboration of the first. I'd use a dash in this case:

. . . . and realize [that]we missed it -- [that] we missed the whole thing.

It's a strange style of writing. It purports to be scholarly, but the constructions are very casual - almost conversational.

Thanks Avangi!

Aha, the structure is conversational.

Maybe the author needed new words or new styles to explain his concepts.
