Come to

Hi Teachers, I have some problem with the meaning of "come to".Please paraphrase the following sentence:

" Fromm came to regard his calling not so much as a sociologist, a social psychologist, or a psychoanalyst but as a social critic—what we have since come to call a public intellectual."
