"come out of its smelling like a rose" ? .....

today i have 3 questions that i need your help to understand. i'm waiting for your reply.

1.Woman : what did you think of that comedian jokes ?
Man : tell you the truth . a lot of them went over my head.

So the man means he couldn't understand the jokes, or the jokes were unimpressive and he didn't remember it ?

2.i heard dora was having some trouble at work.
Yes but as usual , she'll come out of it smelling like a rose.

What does " come out of it smelling like a rose " mean ?
Could you give an example with it ?

3... I took for granted, all of the times
That I thought would last somehow
I hear the laughter, I taste the tears
But I can't get near you now ... (song:right here waiting for you)
