Yes, it's "eternal." Typing mistake. My bad.
More context here: "They're waiting for something that they feel is cooming'. Something important, and great. Aren't they waiting for the eternal part in them to come out clear? Some of the things they're going to say maybe'll hurt your feelings - but that's the way it is..."

A common answer to this is that earthly life is a sort of "muddy" example of what eternal life is like. But then, the question is: can anyone do very much,

I think you came up with a good answer. I was also thinking about that, but I wasn't so sure.
- Are these characters doing things that will make them fitter for the next lfe: to make their souls come out more clearly, or are they just waiting around for it to happen?
