Come out clear

Hi, everybody!

What does "to come out clear" exactly mean? The context is "Aren't they waiting for the eternar part of them to come out clear?"

Thanks in advance!

What's eternar? Eternal? Sounds like some sort of religious jargon.

Yes, it's "eternal." Typing mistake. My bad.

More context here: "They're waiting for something that they feel is cooming'. Something important, and great. Aren't they waiting for the eternal part in them to come out clear? Some of the things they're going to say maybe'll hurt your feelings - but that's the way it is..."

It is taken from the play "Our Town" by Thorton Wilde

Nice try, but no. I can't help you much on this one.

It could mean that something important about them will be very clearly revealed, but don't take that to the bank.

Hi

It's interesting

I think, very briefly, that Mr Wilde is asking (a) do you believe that humans have life beyond death? and (b) if so, what effect does a person's life on earth have on their overall, eternal life?

A common answer to this is that earthly life is a sort of "muddy" example of what eternal life is like. But then, the question is: can anyone do very much,

Thanks, Dave! Interesting thoughts you have there.

- Are these characters doing things that will make them fitter for the next lfe: to make their souls come out more clearly, or are they just waiting around for it to happen?
I think you came up with a good answer. I was also thinking about that, but I wasn't so sure.

Thanks for your help!
