Hi,



Are the following two sentences equivalent? Also is the correct one natural in a conversation?



1. I don’t want to come out as giving excuses to avoid work

2. I don’t want to come out as one giving excuses to avoid work.

For me, yes. I wouldn't be surprised if a Brit or someone came along and said that your originals were OK, though.
