Chicks come in all colors.


What kind of situation do you native speakers think it could be for this sentence?

If I saw it in a BrE article, I'd probably think it related to some kind of Easter gift: fluffy baby chickens in a variety of coloured materials. Or perhaps baby chickens made out of sugar.

If I saw it online, I too would probably choose the 'Nevada desert' interpretation.

Not unless something has changed drastically in the last half hour.

I don't often hear 'chick/female' over here, except in inverted commas. (Come to think of it, I don't hear 'chick/chicken' very often, either. But the shops are full of Easter stuff.)

In the midst of the Nevada desert, there's a venerable US institution known as the 'Chicken Ranch'.

The 'chicks' there are very much as Mike described in his first post (or so I understand).
