Come calling

Their idyll ends before it begins when three thugs come calling, apparently recruited by the slimiest human-resources department of America's intelligence agencies.

In this context it probably means "appear on the scene", "show up". The more general meaning is "come to visit"; "come for a visit", "come (to your place) to see (you)". CJ
