come apart at the seams

This expression, "come apart at the seams", I'm wondering if I can change it to "go apart" or "get apart". Thanks!!!

No. It is a fixed expression. Come apart itself is an idiomatic phrasal verb meaning 'become separated into pieces or fragments'.

Thanks so much, Mister Micawber ^_^ So is the verb 'come' for 'become'? I read somewhere that 'become' is more formal than 'get'.

No, no recent relationship. Long, long ago, perhaps: O.E. becuman "happen, come about," from P.Gmc. *bikwemanbekommen, Goth. biquiman).
