Combining prepositions

Is this particular phrase proper English? "served during in the" it appears to be a word manipulation in an attempt to derive a new meaning.

I can't think of a way that these prepositions are combined directly

They might appear in the same sentence in two different phrases..

"During the Second World War, he served in the Welsh Guards"
