Combining passive and active in same sentence.

Is the following sentence bad form?

I was mentored by, and managed money for, a man from Panama.

It's not the most elegant sentence in the world, but it seems all right grammatically. Personally, I think I might rewrite it, but I have no strong objection to it as it stands. CJ
