Comas w/insertions?

Please help me with the punctuation for the following sentence:
"Today, and each day, rise asking what you can do for the college." (should there be comas between "Today" and "each day" as it appears above. Or should the sentence read, (ie "Today and each day rise asking what you can do for the college.") I have this problem often when a sentence is stuctured similar to this one. I am never sure what to do. I normally test it by saying, "Today rise asking what..." and then again, "each day rise asking..." In my mind this means you should add the two comas, as in "Today, and each day, rise..."

It doesn't sound right to me when I read it, "Today and each day rise asking what you can do...."
However, the internet editing software service I am using says: "Review this sentence for comma use. Ensure a comma is not separating the subject and the predicate of this sentence, even if the subject is compound. The comma between the subject ("Today, and each day") and the predicate ("rise asking what you can do for the college") may not be required. Consider removing it. A compound subject is a subject which lists more than one thing. Commas may be used within the compound subject to separate the nouns, but should not be used between the subject and the predicate of the sentence."
Now I am not sure what to do?
Thank you for your help, Chris Williams

'Today and each day' is not a subject; it is an adverb. Ignore editing and spelling software; most of it is useless. Use this (one comma): Today and each day , rise asking what you can do.
