Could you tell us what definitions you have found for them that seem similar? Apart from the facts that both apply to groups of people and both start with "c," they don't have much in common. Why pick these two, instead of, for instance, commune, cohort, conglomerate, company, crowd, crew, coterie or crowd? Or settlement, outpost, encampment, village, society? I just don't understand how your questions arise.
