Colon Use

Hi there,

In this instance is my use of a colon acceptable?

The truth is: I know who me is, I just don’t have the confidence to be him

Thanks in advance!

But not technically wrong?

You are beyond my knowledge of punctuation. However, I believe it's wrong to put a comma between a verb and the rest of the sentence, so my best guess is that it's wrong. For example, the following sentences are all mispunctuated in my opinion.

I believe: it's wrong.
The truth is: it's wrong.

I agree with CalifJim. The colon in your example in your example is unnecessary and looks a bit unorthodox, frankly. Also, as was indicated, there should be a semicolon in the sentence. And a period at the end of the sentence.
