Colon use?

In this instance, is the use of a colon acceptable?

They are not a part of this ugly world: they exist
In a transient, beautiful one.

Thanks in advance,
Emma

Hi Yes, I'd say that is quite right. ] - They exist in a more transient, beautiful one If you can do that with two sentences, then you can join the two ideas in a single sentence with a colon: - They are not a part of this ugly world: they exist In a transient, beautiful one. That's good Dave

Yes, I'd say that is quite right. One of the main uses of the colon is to show that one part of a sentence explains or follows on from the other:

- They are not part of this ugly world
- [Why not?]
- They exist in a more transient, beautiful one

If you can do that with two sentences, then you can join the two ideas in a single sentence with a colon:
