Colon usage instead of the comma

Would it be ok to use the colon as I did?
  1. I forget his name, but he had spoke to me about a word: callocation.
  2. I forget his name, but he had spoke to me about a word, callocation.
What about in this scenario?
  1. I went to the library today and met this one guy: Tim; he was quite the knowledgable person.
  2. I went to the library today and met this one guy: Tim. He was quite the knowledgable person.

The question of such punctuation is not set in cement, and the best thing a writer can do is be consistent. I would agree, most likely; but I would prefer seeing "spoken" in the first set of sentences.
