Colon usage - direction of flow

Hi,

Normally I think the flow of general to specific for a colon use is from left to right but some things are not so clear as to whether it is flowing down from general to spcific in the direction mentioned.

Is this good? How is that?

Children going hungry, children not getting proper education, and children not being properly clothed: these are travesty of our time.

The flow is indeed usually from general to specific, but I see no reason why the opposite could not occasionally occur for effect. Children going hungry , children not being properly clothed or educated : these are the travesties of our time.
