College is a place where students can learn new knowledge and experience. Going to college has its advantages as receiving a higher education, or getting a good job; but behind these, students undoubtedly face to the problem how to deal with stress at a young age. Examination, school fees, part-time jobs put students under pressure. One of the ways to deal with stress is to connect with the world outside instead of keeping it inside. Several methods of connecting are relationships with friends, extracurricular activities, free time for relaxation and getting ready for exams.
Having friends may keep him/her healthier and help him/her deal with stress better. People, who are friendless, are more risky to stress and also mental related problems. Having friends around, especially close friends, is an escape for stressed students. Peer support is usually more effective in relieving stress. Friends can easily understand him/her because they also undergo stress in a similar circumstance as he does. When he/she is in a good relationship, he/she has somebody there to share his/her worries with. He/she finds it comfortable to share his/her story with his/her friends. One of the best solutions is go out and talk to his/her friends. Interaction with peers helps relieve the pressure and stress that students endure.
In addition, extracurricular activities also help a student escape from his/her stress. Spending several hours on the weekend to volunteer for school or at a nursing home makes him/her feel happy and relieved after doing something good for society. Also, leisure activities such as sports, singing and doing community services successfully trim down academic stress because many activities take place in a relaxing environment.
Besides, free time for relaxation is also a noticed thing. Cooking or watching movies is one of the ways that makes him/her forget the stress temporarily. Also, exercise or yoga regularly can release tension, and the less tension you feel, the better off you might be. This will make a feeling of relaxation occur after a period of exercise. Exercise is very beneficial to the body.
Moreover, getting ready for exams is one of the best choices that reduces anxieties. According to a research, those who does not study enough for exams will feel more likely stressful than others who study sufficiently. Reading syllabus and managing time wisely to arrange what is needed to study help him/her feel less vague on the exams. If there is anything unclear, ask teachers for help. Also, getting enough sleep before exam days is an important factor to make his/her mind and body fresh.
