Collective nouns and verb agreement

Hello,

I recently read this sentence: Chelsea football club wear a blue kit.

Is it possible to also use a singular verb here (wears)?

Could we use either a plural or singular verb form here?

Singular because the team are one unit = a team ), or do use a plural verb because the players are individuals wearing blue = players are doing the same thing, but acting independently of each other?

Thank you for your time and attention.
