Hi I would say that a collective noun is one where you cannot use 'a' or 'an' before it. Instead, you may use 'the' or 'some' (or nothing).. - Furniture - collective: we had to move the furniture - Food - can be non-collective: rice is a food that many people enjoy - People - can be non-collective: the French are a people who enjoy their food - Equipment - collective: we had to move the equipment up to the second floor So I agree with you Regards, Dave
