Collect on somebody

Could anyone help me understand the meaning of the below?

(A scene from a drama)

----------

She owed a lot of money to some unpleasant people. They were ready to collect on her, as interest.
----------

Does the phrase "to collect on her" mean "to sell her as a prostitute" to get the money back?
I'm not sure if my understanding is right... I appreciate your help!

No, they wanted to collect their money, but she didn't have it. So by "collect on her, with interest" means to hurt her. " " With interest" means they would hurt her badly .

" With interest" means they would hurt her badly. "As interest" means, I believe, they would hurt her but still expect money. However the wording is confused.)
