Collaborate in + ing or on + ing

For instance, I guess you can say
“We have collaborated IN planning these joint assignments for weeks.”
OR
“We have collaborated On planning these joint assignments for weeks.”

Using ‘On + ing’ or ‘In + ing’, are there any differences in the meaning?

Also, is it OK to say this?
“I have collaborated with them in planning these joint assignments for weeks.”
I guess, it isn't, but I cannot come up with a good explanation.

I have collaborated with them in planning these joint assignments for weeks. I see no objection to this sentence. I can't see why you say that you guess it isn't OK.

I see no objection to this sentence. I can't see why you say that you guess it isn't OK.

Actually that was my original sentence, but when I searched on Google to make sure with key words “collaborated-with-*-in-planning”, I couldn’t hit any. But I guess I'd put wrong words because now, I did it again, I got over 40.
