coins and pieces

Very few of the fifty pence pieces and pound coins I have given him have found their way there.

May I say "fifty pence coins" or "pound pieces" ?

Top answer

It is usual to say fifty pence piece (or 50p piece) and pound coin. Saying it the other way round sounds odd to me.
