Cockpit

One of the definitions of cockpit is a place in an airplane fuselage for the pilot. Other definitions are: (1) a pit for cockfighting; (2) a place of protracted, bloody conflict, which derives from (1); (3) an apartment in a sailing warship below the waterline for junior officers, also used to hold the wounded in an engagement.
can mean several things, including (1) the male of the common barn yard fowl; (2) the hammer in the lock of a firearm; (3) to turn or stick up; (4) to set erect; to tip up or to one side; as, to *** one's head (5) a small conical pile of hay, etc.
My question is, why is an airplane cockpit called a "cockpit?"

(Nota bene: ... "cockpit"?)
Because cockpits were traditionally manned by male pilots. Pars pro toto: *** = man. Now that they allow women to pilot commercial airliners (sheesh!), all-women crews occupy "cuntpits."

I don't understand at all what you mean. Agewise, I'm 67-4/12.
