Coasts that 'face' the Gulf of Mexico

Good afternoon.
I've searched for occurances of an expression like 'the coasts of the US states that face the Gulf of Mexico' in the Internet.
I couldn't find many.
I'd like a collocation that could also inspire me for other similar phrases such as 'the coasts of the Southern states that face the Atlantic Ocean'.
Any suggestion?
Thank you

The coasts of the Gulf states.

The coasts of the southern Atlantic states. (This would be Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina.)

If I had to explain what the 'Gulf states' are or what the 'southern Atlantic states' are, do you think I could use the verb FACE as in the phrases 'the US states that face the Gulf of Mexico' or the 'southern states that face the Atlantic Ocean'?
Thank you.

In the US, the Gulf states are the states that border the Gulf of Mexico.
The southern Atlantic states are the southern states on the Atlantic coast.

I would not say they "face" the water.
